Bellingham Script Font for Handmade Labels & Printables

If you've ever spent hours tweaking letter spacing on a candle label only to find it looks stiff or overly formal—or worse, unreadable at small sizes—you know how much the right script font can change everything. That’s why Bellingham has become my go-to for projects where warmth and clarity need to coexist: think boutique soap tags, wedding welcome signs, printable wall art, and even Cricut-cut vinyl decals for mugs and tote bags.

Bellingham is a hand-written script with large, graceful loops and an upright casualness that feels both intentional and effortless. It’s not slanted like many scripts—so it avoids that “leaning too far” look that can throw off alignment on packaging or uneven surfaces—and its open counters and consistent stroke weight make it surprisingly legible even at 12–14pt on printed product labels. That upright posture gives it quiet confidence: friendly but never fussy, personal but still polished enough for premium handmade goods.

Where Bellingham Shines in Real Craft Projects

I’ve used Bellingham across dozens of physical and digital products—and each time, it lifts the perceived quality without demanding extra design time. Here’s how it works in practice:

Readability Matters—Especially When You’re Selling

Let’s be real: no matter how beautiful a script font looks on screen, if it fails at 16pt on a sticker or blurs when printed on kraft paper, it’s not serving your business. Bellingham avoids common script pitfalls—it doesn’t rely on ultra-thin hairlines that vanish on thermal printers, nor does it cram letters so tightly that “ll” or “ff” merge into indecipherable blobs. Its upright stance also means less distortion when curved around jars or arched over mason jar lids.

For best results: use Bellingham for short phrases (3–7 words), names, titles, and decorative accents—not body copy. It’s a display font, not a paragraph workhorse. But within that role, it delivers exceptional versatility: “Hand-poured in Bellingham” reads warmly on a candle jar; “Est. 2022” feels grounded and sincere on a boutique tag; “Thank You” on a thank-you card carries just the right amount of handwritten charm without looking childish.

Smart Pairings & Practical Design Notes

Bellingham thrives alongside typefaces that ground its energy. My most-used pairings:

  1. A clean, airy sans serif (e.g., Lato, Nunito, or Inter) for body text, pricing, or ingredient lists—creates instant hierarchy and modern contrast.
  2. A subtle serif (like Cormorant Garamond or Playfair Display) for elegant balance—ideal for wedding suites or luxury skincare lines.

The Script Amp version includes stylistic alternates, ligatures, and optional swashes—handy for customizing “The” or “&” in logos or monograms. It also supports extended Latin characters, so if you sell internationally or include French/Spanish phrases on packaging (think “Fait à la main” or “Hecho a mano”), you’re covered. Files come in OTF and TTF formats—fully compatible with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Cricut Access, and Silhouette Studio.

Commercial Use? Yes—But Check the License

This is non-negotiable: Bellingham is a commercial font, meaning you’re fully licensed to use it in products you sell—physical items (stickers, apparel, signs), digital downloads (printables, SVG bundles, Canva templates), client work, and even merchandise like t-shirts or enamel pins. Just verify your license covers expanded commercial use—some versions limit redistribution in editable template files, while others allow full bundling. When in doubt, check the included license PDF before uploading to Etsy or Gumroad. A clear license protects your shop, your customers, and your creative integrity.

At its core, Bellingham isn’t just another pretty script font. It’s a thoughtful design tool—one that respects the craft behind your work and the customer who chooses your handmade goods over mass-produced alternatives. It says “carefully made” before a single word is read. Whether you're designing a holiday gift tag, updating your shop banner, or building a cohesive brand identity across labels, cards, and social posts, Bellingham brings consistency, warmth, and quiet professionalism to every detail.
